It’s the last day of 2025—the perfect time to set next year’s writing goals.

  1. Self-publish Crystals of Ulstra.
I still need to finish editing the second draft and seek input from beta readers and a professional editor. I hope to publish it by the end 2026.
  2. Start (and complete) first draft of Tides of Ulstra.
I already plotted the second book of the Ulstra trilogy. My mission is to write the first draft of it while preparing to publish the first book.
  3. Finish plotting Horizons of Ulstra.
I’ve recently made some progress on this front. I think I may have the final book of the trilogy fully plotted in the first few weeks of 2026.
  4. Read more, especially fantasy and science fiction.
Yes, reading more books can also be a writing goal. I can hone my craft and elevate my own skills by learning from others in my genre. I would like to prioritize reading as many fellow indie authors as I can.
  5. Post more often right here on my blog.
The first year of my return to blogging has been fun. It’s two things at once: a way to share updates on my work and sort out my thoughts. From exploring why I write queer fantasy to my recent musings on why you don’t have to write every day to be a writer, I’ve enjoyed posting here. I want to make an effort to do it more often next year.

What are your writing goals for the coming year? I’d love to hear them!
