It has truly been wonderful getting to know Cejana while writing this book. She is an attendant to Maven Rubena, a trans woman, a talented Mago, a loyal friend, and a beautifully complicated individual with bold ambition as limitless as her generosity.

Cejana’s story starts in Crystals of Ulstra, but she will become even more important as the trilogy continues. She represents the possibilities that Ulstra’s future could hold.

Once again, Frejj has brilliantly brought this character to life with this character portrait that I can’t stop staring at. It is undeniably Cejana. Her portrait is just the introduction, though. I can’t wait for you to meet her when you read the book!

An Interview with Cejana

Fragments of a conversation with Cejana Florvendi, Mago of Taumaturgio
Recorded by a junior chronicler at Taumaturgio, sometime before the war

Where did you grow up?

I’m from the tiny village of Riverbordo, hidden deep in Arbardio’s Grove. My parents grow fields of flowers that they sell in the village and city. I moved to Taumaturgio for school at the Magiakademio and never left.

What has been your most formative experience?

I only really knew myself when I decided to live freely as the woman I am.

What is your romantic history?

I am not currently seeing anyone in that capacity. I haven’t had the time to devote to sustaining a real relationship with another woman. But I do want that for myself. I’ll admit my eyes are set on someone in particular.

How is your relationship with your family?

I get along with them very well. My parents still live in Arbardio’s Grove, but my sisters have all relocated to the city. We see each other regularly.

What do you value most?

My health, my freedom, my humor, my friends and family, and my job.

Are you religious?

In Taumaturgio, magic is religion. As for the gods, I don’t rightly know.

Who do you trust?

I trust Maven Rubena to a fault. I have a handful of close friends who have known me for years and I can trust intrinsically, including Koralo.

What is your biggest fear?

I am sometimes scared of oppositional members of the Konsilio. Selfishly, I fear that if the Maven were ever to be unseated, I would be out of a job.

What do you desire most in life?

It’s a lofty goal, but one day, I would like to be elected as the Maven of the Mago. Leading the magical community is what I envision for my future.

What do you do for fun?

The nightlife in Taumaturgio is something else. Care to join me, amiko?
