Introducing the Characters from Crystals of Ulstra

(Artwork by Frejj)
Farinosa is a fabulous Mago from the desert oasis of Cevali. She has multiple important jobs. She’s the head of Kudrado, the fashion house responsible for Ulstra’s finest clothes. She’s also a diplomatic politician as an elected incumbent on the Konsilio of Mago, representing the free city in the governing body over Ulstra’s magic community.
Farinosa has a meaningful role in this book, but she is admittedly something of a minor character in Crystals of Ulstra. Her role expands throughout the course of the series.
This character portrait by Frejj perfectly captures Farinosa’s vivacious, colorful side. It has been such a dream working together to bring the people of Ulstra to life through this art.
An Interview with Farinosa
Bits of an interview with Konsilisto Farinosa, Head of Kudrado Fashion House
Conducted by a reporter at the Cevali Sentinel shortly before the war
When and where were you born?
I was born and raised in the free city of Cevali. There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.
What’s your favorite thing about your hometown?
Cevali is the cultural heart of Ulstra. Around every corner you’ll find a fashion house, a gaming hall, a world-class theatre, or a bazaar selling anything your mind imagines.
How did you become interested in fashion?
My mother may not have worked in the fashion industry, but she was—and still is—a devastatingly stylish woman. Appearance isn’t everything, but the right clothing can certainly boost your confidence and allow you to express your creativity in myriad ways.
Which bold fashion trends can we expect on the horizon?
I’ve long been a fan of celestial designs. This year, the demand for fabrics and jewelry in the shape of suns, moons, and stars is on the rise, much to my personal satisfaction.
What is your approach to politics?
I consider myself egalitarian and diplomatic. As a member of the Konsilio of Mago, I prioritize ensuring all viewpoints are equally heard and all decisions are made fairly.
What are your greatest strengths?
I am adaptable, confident, and prudent. My decisions are carefully considered. I have great empathy for others. And, some might say I am a talented clothing designer.
Do you have any weaknesses?
I’ll admit, sometimes my style and accessories can border on gaudy. Sometimes.
What’s your favorite comfort meal?
A hearty salad over amaranth greens, followed by chia pudding and dates for dessert.
Who are your most trusted friends?
I’ve been friends with Tuli since we were young. She works with me now at Kudrado, one of several close associates I know I can trust. I travel a lot; I’ve made lasting friendships in other places as well, such as Tondra in Zirkono Minado and Rubena in Taumaturgio.
What kind of future do you want to see for Ulstra?
I envision a future where everyone in Ulstra is free, whether in Cevali or Kastelspajro. Every one of us deserves a life of our own creation, without tyranny and oppression.
And that’s your first introduction to Farinosa! You can get to know her even better in my debut epic fantasy novel Crystals of Ulstra when it’s released on December 4.
